Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is situated at the foothills of the Zabarwan Range in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, overlooking the scenic Dal Lake.
The garden covers around 30 hectares, making it Asia’s largest tulip garden.
Known locally as Siraj Bagh, it is easily accessible from central Srinagar.
The best time to visit is during spring – late March to mid-April – when over a million tulips burst into bloom.
The annual Tulip Festival is held during this peak season, with vibrant displays and moderate temperatures (15°C to 20°C), making sightseeing delightful.
Early April is the most spectacular period for flower lovers.
Established in 2007 to develop floriculture and attract tourism, the garden features a terraced, sloping layout of seven levels.
Initially known as the Model Floriculture Center, it was renamed after Indira Gandhi.
Around 1.75 million bulbs (mainly from Holland) cover the site, including more than 70 varieties of tulips and many other spring flowers.
Open daily during the season: 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Best to visit in mornings for lighter crowds and softer light.
