As the golden rays of dawn kissed the sleepy town of
Srinagar, my heart brimmed with anticipation for the odyssey that awaited me
amidst the pristine beauty of the Kashmir Great Lakes. Departing from the
bustling city, I embarked on a soul-stirring journey into the heart of nature’s
grandeur.
The initial leg of my expedition led me from Srinagar to
Sonamarg, a gateway to paradise nestled in the lap of majestic mountains. Here,
time seemed to stand still as I immersed myself in the tranquility of the
surroundings. An evening stroll by the glistening river, with the cool breeze
carrying whispers from the Thajwas Glacier, painted a mesmerizing picture of
serenity and natural harmony.
Day two unfolded a tapestry of natural wonders as I
traversed from Sonamarg to Nichnai via Shekdur. The trail meandered beside
cascading waterfalls that danced down rocky cliffs, their melodious symphony
echoing through the valley. Each step deeper into the wilderness unveiled
nature’s artwork in the form of lush meadows, vibrant wildflowers, and rugged
landscapes that spoke of eons of geological tales.
The third day ushered in an ethereal experience as I
journeyed from Nichnai to the enchanting Vishansar Lake. Set amidst towering
peaks, this pristine waterbody held a magical allure, earning its moniker as
“The Color Changing Lake.” Its azure waters reflected the ever-changing
hues of the sky, a testament to nature’s artistic prowess and the play of light
and shadow in the mountain realm.
Continuing my expedition, I ventured from Vishansar to
Gadsar, encountering the enigmatic “Mysterious Lake of Demon.”
Surrounded by rugged cliffs and mirrored by the clear blue sky, Gadsar exuded
an aura of mystery and mystique, inviting contemplation and reverence for the
raw, untouched beauty of the wilderness.
Crossing the first glacier on the route to Satsar was a thrilling yet humbling experience. The icy expanse challenged my physical limits while bestowing panoramic views of untamed landscapes and shimmering alpine lakes. Satsar, with its secluded charm and pristine waters reflecting the surrounding peaks, felt like a hidden gem nestled in nature’s embrace.
The culmination of my expedition at the Gangabal Twin Lakes was a crescendo of natural splendor. Surrounded by towering cliffs and serenaded by the whispers of the wind, these twin lakes mirrored the grandeur of the Himalayas. Their tranquil waters, untouched by human presence, mirrored the purity and majesty of unspoiled nature.
